The Orleans

The Orleans is an anomaly. Off the strip, in a mediocre neighborhood, and not nearly as fancy as any of the strip rooms, but run so well in it's niche that it may be the busiest poker room in Las Vegas. They don't have tableside food service, though there is cheap food close by at the food court, they don't run high stakes games in lush private rooms, and the room can be a bit smoky, but they do so many things right that it doesn't matter.

Locals flock to this room, though you will often find tourists on a budget playing here as well. With free parking and no traffic problems, locals know that getting into and out of the Orleans is easy and the poker room is right inside the door when you walk in from the structure. The neighborhood is definitely not dangerous, but we do recommend locking your car in the parking lot or structure just in case.

Tournament fields for daily events are quite good here, with the Friday night tournament generating a huge prize pool for a small buy-in. The staff are friendly and know most of the regular players. Rake is lower on the high side at $5, but heavy on the promo drop at $3. The promos run all day, though they are a bit better at certain times. If you hate promos and just want to keep your money, The Orleans may not be for you, but it does bring in a ton of players and they do give all that money back in the promos, including bad beat jackpots, high hand bonuses, and other special promos.

$4/8 and $8/16 Omaha Eight Or Better runs every day, and mixed game tournaments run most days in the afternoon as well. Most other games are $1/2 no-limit holdem, though $2/5 sometimes runs and PLO happens occasionally. The room runs on the Bravo system, so you'll need to call in ahead of time to get on the list. During busy times you may run into longer lists because high tier status players can jump to the top of the list in front of you and keep you waiting quite a bit longer, but during most times you should get a table at any game you like fairly quickly.
