Horseshoe

The Horseshoe, formerly Harrah's, sits in the heart of the strip and hosts the World Series Of Poker every summer. It also hosts the Poker Hall Of Fame, which is just a couple of walls covered with pictures, but can be a fun five or ten minutes of looking at the old photos and reading the names.

There are usually at least a few $1/3 no-limit holdem tables running, and occasionally $1/2/5 PLO. The rake is among the highest in the city, but at times the games are so soft that it's well worth it. The Horseshoe seems to be mostly resting on it's laurels as the "WSOP Poker Room" since they have high rake, slow service, no tableside eats and expensive food that isn't worth the money within walking distance. They also charge for parking if you don't have at least a platinum card, and that $25 a day can really eat into your profits.

The staff is pleasant and friendly, the biggest upside of the room to be sure. The promotions come and go, you have to be there at the right times to get any of that promo money back, but when they are running, the high hand promotions can be quite good. If you hate smoke, the room isn't terribly smoky like the rooms of five or ten years ago, but the air here isn't perfect.

The games do tend to be a bit softer than average, but not enough to pay for parking on top of the high rake. You definitely won't run into as many pros, grinding out a living with headphones on as you might in nicer rooms like Aria, Wynn, or Venetian. If you already have platinum or higher status, or just want the experience of playing at the Hall Of Fame poker room, the Horseshoe is just fine. Make sure to get a selfie with the Hall Of Fame sign in the background, it's the closest thing to memorabilia you can get here. And bring a protein bar. The cafe next door sells muffins for $9 and bottles of water for $8.
